Formed in the Flame

Formed in the Flame is a husband and wife owned business specializing in lamp-worked beads and custom designed jewelry.  Our company’s name comes not only from the exquisite art beads formed in the flame, the wonderful relationships molded and shaped while working in this same flame, but also our lives, which have at times been formed by the Refiner’s fire (Malachi 3:1-4)

Every glittering glass bead, created using a palette of vibrantly hued Moretti glass rods, imported from Murano, Italy, is individually crafted while working over an oxygen-gas flame;  this centuries old art form is known as “lamp-working”.  Hot, flowing glass is wound around a metal mandrel, then hand-shaped with the help of gravity and tools.  Each piece is kiln annealed to create heirloom - quality art glass jewelry.

Each hand-made bead is beautifully unique, having its own individual qualities and properties.  Because of this, we can never duplicate a previous piece exactly.  Although we enjoy designing our own jewelry, we will also create jewelry to your specific color choices and specifications using silver or gold findings, as well as additions of crystals, gemstones and decorative metal beads.

Having creative minds and constantly looking for new experiences, we are in the process of expanding our business by adding PMC clay and fused glass jewelry and findings .. .and what ever else seems interesting.  As Coco Chanel once said, “When I can no longer create anything, I’ll be done for.”
